Professional Growing Information 
I bought this cultivar at Lowe's about 10 years ago. It has bloomed reliably every year. However, it drops seeds everywhere and new seedlings come up the following spring! What a mess it creates... The plant description says it "produces few to no seeds" and that is completely wrong! Do these growers even know the plants that they sell? To Tasha of North Carolina, altheas are deer-resistant ... but only when they are mature. Deer browse just about anything even plants they don't like. They are especially destructive to young tender plants. The young altheas need to be caged or protected until they reach a certain size. After that deer leave them alone. This is speaking from experience.

Easy-to-grow summer color!
Large, single lavender flowers are adorned with a lacy center to create an anemone-like bloom. Beautiful for use in a mixed container, or incorporated into a mixed border. A mass planting will create an easy-to-grow privacy screen with lots of summer color. Like all of the Chiffon® series, it has soft, graceful stems and a useful rounded habit.

Maintenance Notes:Blooms in summer. Grows in any soil unless it is either really wet or dry. Prune in early spring if desired. Prefers medium moisture. Deciduous shrub. Fertilize in early spring by applying a slow release fertilizer formulated for trees and shrubs. Follow the label for recommended rate of application.

If you have deer problems, DO NOT PURCHASE!!! I purchased 3 of these lavender chiffon. Excited about the pretty bloom show I thought I was going to receive. After having them in the ground for a few days, I noticed the plants getting thin. I had no idea what the issue was until I inspected the plants closer only to realize they were being eaten. I sprayed liquid fence, placed Irish spring soap around each plant and nothing worked. Even tried the cayenne pepper spray and I think I did more harm to myself. The deer ate and ate until there were just stalks left. I am sooooo disappointed. These plant are definitely NOT deer resistant!

First time I've grown this lavender hibiscus. Because I'm in Houston with the beastly summer heat and humidity, I have it in a container on east side of house., It has multiple blooms. Love love love!

The plant was well formed and growing strong in my backyard when we moved into our house. It is beautiful and attracts bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. We look forward to its bloom every year. In fact, we like this plat so much, we've decided to add one to the front yard too!

One of my favorite shrubs! The abundant flower display from June to September is absolutely beautiful! It is one of the last shrubs to leaf out in the spring, but the show it puts on in summer more than makes up for that. The only problem I've had with this shrub is when it gets about 5 ft, it gets top heavy and the harsh winter winds have made it lean, but we just straightened it up and staked it and it has been fine since then.

I have 2 Rose of Sharon treees in my front yard. I love them, and was considering purchasing another 1-2 plants. The flowers attract hummingbirds and bumblebees. I had to severely prune one of the trees last year--it had started to grow at a slant and was hitting my windows and side of my house. It grew back beautifully by this Summer. I enjoyed its blooms until a couple of weeks ago. These plants love the sun, and survived a brutal Summer where temperatures exceeded 100 degrees for over 2 weeks each day.
